Empowering Mandals for Slum-Upgrading
MHT’s was a central partner in the Ahmedabad Parivartan Project (also called the Slum Networking Project or SNP) for over a decade. The programme provided infrastructure services to 40% of the city’s population living in slums. While the success of the programme can be attributed to the collaborative action taken by the government with MHT and other non-governmental organizations, SNP also heavily relied on local mandals (community organizations) to act as community managers for provision and maintenance of infrastructure. The data gathered via the survey of mandal leaders provides knowledge regarding the state of these associations as of 2009.
